The 22-year-old keeper, who joined Vipers from UPDF FC at the start of this season was expected to replaced departing goalie Ismail Watenga but he has had to settle for a second place behind Fabien Mutombora.
Ssekagya has not been involved in as many games but has grasped the opportunity presented to him since the Burundian goalkeeper picked up an injury and has since made four appearances.
He was very instrumental in Vipers qualification past El Merriekh in the champions league despite making his debut in the first leg played in Khartoum. And his brilliant save against Police started the counter that saw Vipers score to gain all three points from the game.
“Making my CAF Champions League debut was a unique feeling. I was very anxious before the game in Sudan, he stated before adding “Whenever Vipers SC competes, it’s for the win. And since it was in the CAF Champions League, it’s what everyone coaches, players and fans want, and we battled on the field to eliminate El Merreikh.”
He hopes that the Venoms can edge their next opponent in the CAF Champions League, CS Constantine from Algeria and advance to the group stages
” Of course everything has just begun, but we have big objectives and we hope to win important things.”
“The fans and the players really want to win. The match against El Merreikh was special, but we have to prove ourselves in front of our fans again. I hope to help the team in whatever way I can. We work hard every day to be prepared when I take the field and help my team.” he said.
Vipers SC will play CS Constantine on December 14 in the first leg away in Algeria and a return leg at St. Mary’s stadium a week later on December 22.
