The Africa Men’s Sevens tournament has been confirmed November, 9-10, 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The annual tournament is also set to double as the qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics in Japan.

Fourteen national teams including Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Madagascar, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Namibia, Ghana, Botswana, Mauritius, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria have been confirmed for the show piece with Burkina Faso and South Africa set to join the tournament to raise the number to 16 teams.

However, South Africa who are currently lying fourth on the World series ranking will automatically qualify for the Olympics if they maintain or improve their current rankings but if they fall, they will be inducted into the tournament’s roster to play for qualification.

Uganda have previously had their dominance on this tournament winning it back to back in 2016 and 2017 before finishing third last year in Tunisia after beating Madagascar 24-19 in the third place playoff.

Uganda have just returned to Africa from participating in the HSBC World 7s Series Qualifiers in Hong Kong, after failing to make it out of the group stages.
