As Uganda comes together to mark Heroes Day, Mawerere Isaac Doka, Youth MP Aspirant for Eastern Uganda, has called upon the nation—especially its young people to not only celebrate the sacrifices of national heroes, but to rise and become the next generation of leaders, changemakers, and defenders of Uganda’s future.
In his Heroes Day message, Mawerere reflects on the importance of remembering those who laid down their lives, risked their freedom, and stood up against injustice so that Uganda could enjoy peace, democracy, and opportunity. According to him, “Heroes Day is not just about looking back. It is also about looking forward. It is a day of deep reflection and renewed commitment to serve our country with purpose, especially for the youth.”
Mawerere Isaac Doka believes that while Uganda’s history is filled with brave and selfless individuals, today’s young people also have the power to be heroes by standing for truth, justice, and development. “We no longer need heroes who go to war with guns,” he says. “What we need now are heroes who go to school, who start businesses, who protect the environment, who lead with integrity, and who speak for the voiceless.”
As a Youth MP Aspirant for Eastern Uganda, Mawerere says he is inspired by the courage of past heroes and motivated to follow in their footsteps by serving the people and helping build a better future for all. He emphasizes the importance of youth empowerment, job creation, education, and civic participation as the new battlegrounds for national transformation.
“We honor the past best when we fight for the future,” he adds. “Let every young Ugandan know that they matter, their voice matters, and their contribution to this country’s growth is just as important as those who came before us.”
Mawerere ends his message with a heartfelt call to unity and national pride: “Let this Heroes Day remind us that we are one people, under one flag, with one future. Together, let us rise to the challenge, guided by the example of those who gave everything so that we could have something.”
As Uganda celebrates its heroes, Mawerere Isaac Doka is calling for a new kind of patriotism one rooted in service, leadership, and opportunity for all.
Happy Heroes Day, Uganda.
