Reverend , Priests, Mouners, Distinguished Guests, Family, and Friends,
Today, we gather at St. Thomas Kiwuunya Church of Uganda, Namirembe Diocese, to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, a devoted sister, and a loving mother, the late Edith Mujomba.
As I stand before you, I am overwhelmed with emotions, recalling the countless memories of my beloved sister, Edith. She was more than just an elder sister; she was my mother, my guardian, and my confidante.
I was only two years old when our mother, rest her soul, passed away in 1983. Edith, at the tender age of 17, took on the responsibility of caring for me. She breastfed me, carried me on her back, and took me to Mulago Hospital for immunization. Her love and care knew no bounds.
As I grew older, I came to appreciate the sacrifices she made for our family. She was the glue that held us together, the pillar that supported us, and the guiding light that led us. She was an epitome of wisdom, a reservoir of knowledge, and an encyclopedist who kept all our documents and knew all our dates of birth.
Edith’s love for our family was unwavering. She was a keeper of our history, a storyteller who passed down our family traditions and values to the younger generation. Her home was always open, and her table was always set for anyone in need.
I recall the countless nights she spent awake, nursing me back to health when I was sick, and the countless days she spent in the kitchen, cooking and preparing meals for our family. Her selflessness and generosity inspired me to become the person I am today.
Just a few days ago, I spoke with Edith, and we made plans to meet and travel to the village together. Little did I know that it would be our last conversation. Her passing has left a void in my life, and I will dearly miss her.
Reverend , Priests ,congregants, Distinguished Guests, Family, and Friends, today we celebrate Edith’s life, her love, and her legacy. We give thanks to God for the gift of her life, her unwavering faith, and her unrelenting commitment to our family.
As we lay her to rest, we take comfort in the words of the Psalmist, “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O God, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” (Psalm 138:8)
Edith, rest in peace, dear sister. Your work is done, and your reward is in heaven. May your soul find eternal rest in the loving arms of our Lord.
To our family and friends, I offer these words of comfort: though Edith is no longer with us, her love, her legacy, and her memory will live on in our hearts.
May God bless Edith’s soul, and may her family find comfort and peace in this time of sorrow.
Amen.
