In his address, while opening the Tuesday plenary, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa urged the public to remain calm and patient as details of his harrowing plane crash experience emerge. Tayebwa, who miraculously survived the incident, emphasized the importance of unity and gratitude, attributing his survival to divine intervention.

Tayebwa shared his profound sense of relief and gratitude, stating, “God gave us another chance to live, so be cool. All details will be out soon.”

“I was involved in an incident, a very unfortunate incident, with four colleagues, my Press Secretary and ADC, we had a very unfortunate incident, but by God’s grace, we were given a second chance to live. We are still going through a lot as individuals, I received all your good wishes and prayers, and I know some people are hungry for news, and details, but some of us are going through a lot, so I request we stop it at that,” he said.

He reassured the nation that thorough investigations are underway to understand the cause of the crash and to ensure the safety of future flights. Tayebwa’s call for calm comes at a crucial time as the country grapples with the shock of the incident and awaits further information.

It’s recalled that a helicopter belonging to BAR Aviation Uganda carrying Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa suffered an accident on Saturday night in Mbarara, but there were no casualties, according to police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma.

The incident involved a private Bell 206 JetRanger helicopter from BAR Aviation Uganda and occurred at Nyakisharara Airfield as Tayebwa and his entourage were returning to Kampala. Fire was seen coming from the cockpit, causing panic and leading the pilot to crash-land the helicopter. Tayebwa confirmed on social media that no one was injured. The last helicopter accident in Uganda occurred in January, involving a military helicopter, resulting in three fatalities.
