The Secretary Generals of political parties under the Inter-Party Organization for Dialogue –IPOD have urged Ugandans to mourn the late Jacob Oulanyah, the former Speaker of Parliament with decency and uphold his legacy.

Led by Richard Todwong, the Secretary-General of the ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM, the officials made the call while at the ruling party Head Office in Kampala where they paid tribute to the late Oulanyah on Tuesday 29th March 2022.

Oulanyah was also the Omoro County legislator as well as NRM CEC Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda.

Todwong was accompanied by; Fred Ebil Ebil, the secretary-general of Uganda People’s Congress – UPC, David Alira, the Secretary-general of People’s Progressive Party – PPP, Dr Gerard Siranda, the Secretary-general of Democratic Party – DP, Harold Kaija, the Deputy Secretary-general of Forum for Democratic Change – FDC, and Hajji Muhammad Katerega, the Secretary-General of Justice Forum – JEEMA party.

Todwong told journalists that they have paid tribute to the Late Oulanyah because he was a dedicated servant despite belonging to the NRM as National Vice Chairperson, Northern Uganda.

Further, Todwong urged Ugandans to mourn Oulanyah with decency and give him the maximum respect that he deserves in death as he deserved in life in order to uphold his legacy as a national leader.

The Government is expected to repatriate Oulanyah body to the country on April 1st, 2022 for state burial. Oulanyah died on March 20th, 2022 in Seattle, USA (around 10:00 am on Sunday), the East African Time (EAT).

Parliament is conducting a plenary for the first time this afternoon since Oulanyah was pronounced dead. This follows the election of the Speaker (Anita Among) and Deputy (Thomas Tayebwa) last week in fulfilment of Article 82(4) of the Construction.
