The State Minister of general duties in the Finance Ministry Henry Musasizi Arigannyira has asked religious leaders across the country to reject influence of sabotage to development based on the disatisfaction and misunderstandings of the 2021 elections.
The Rubanda East legislator was speaking at a function in Rubanda District to officially welcome the Priest of Shebeya Church of Uganda, Rev. Award Tukesiga who was ordained in 2019, but his induction ceremony sheduled for 2020 was delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Musasizi acknowledged that the 2020/2021 election campaigns were marred with chaos fuelled by several factors including speeches that incited hate amongst the community, but he added that it was time to put all the differences behind and focus on development .
“On behalf of my collegues in the political flaternity, I would like to extend my sincere apologies to whoever was either emotionally or psychologically hurt by the statements we made during the campaigns, and ask you all to work with government for the good of our people,” he said.
Musasizi further noted that his call was going out to all religious leaders across the country because without their input, governmnet would find it difficult to implement programs meant for social – economic transfoprmation of the people, particulary the incoming Parish Development Model.
In addition to Musaszi’s words, the Rubanda District LC.5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba cautioned religious leaders against discrimination based on faith subscriptions. He asked Rev. Tukesiga to serve all people in his jurisdiction without considering their religious attachments.
