Mineral Investors Kamuntu investments Uganda Limited and Sino Mineral Investment Company are in final stages of setting up two iron ore smelting plants in Rubanda and Kabale Districts to process iron ore mineral.

Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera the Rubanda County MP who is also the Kamuntu Investments Uganda Limited managing director says that this is a follow up of the investment plan from Chinese partners that has been ongoing with testing the viability and availability of the mineral resource in high gear. They are to be constructed in Karukara in Rubanda and in Kamuganguzi in Kabale district

Kamuntu says that he foresees that in the near future, the people of Kigezi mostly in Rubanda are bound to have more than 30,000 jobs arising from the same so that people get jobs, supply food to laborers and technocrats and other related support staff. Kamuntu also looks at supplying local factories with in Uganda as opposed to exporting raw iron ore.

“my main aim is that the local population can get jobs my target and have 30.000 people working so we can supply to local factories with in Uganda as opposed to exporting “. Said Kamuntu.

Kong Dong Sheng says that the multi-billion iron ore smelting plant in Buhara in Kabale district is now operation since May 2019; he says that the company has so far invested $7.3million in buying land as well as assessing the quality of the iron ore, which he says was found to be good.

The company executive director says by May next year they will have started smelting ore and transporting it to Jinja where there is a steel factory for making final products.

They revealed this on Monday after visiting several iron ore deposits in Rubanda and Kabale district.
