Police officer shoots UPDF soldier over a woman

Police in Rukiga district is investigating circumstances under which one of their own attached to Kamwezi police station shot and injured an army officer attached to Makenke Army barracks over a woman.

Its alleged that at around 10 am last Sunday while at Kabirizi cell in Kigala parish, Kamwezi sub county in Rukiga district ,a Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) Number RA 238749 SGT Mperize David male aged 22 was allegedly shot in the left leg by a police officer police constable No 59480 PC Twongyeirwe Alex.

SGT Mperize David is nursing wounds at Rushebeya clinic where he was rushed for immediate medical attention.

Preliminary reports indicate that the two had picked a quarrel over a woman while drinking in a bar in the night of 7/3/2020 at around 21:00 hours at Akampuriras’ bar shop located at Kabirizi cell.

On Sunday morning as the victim had gone to charge his mobile phone, met the suspect (Twongyeirwe) while armed and in Police uniform. They exchanged bitter words over the same woman and then Mr. Twongyeirwe decided to shoot Mperize.

“They exchanged bitter words over the same woman exchanged bitterly and that’s when decided to shoot him.” Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson said.

According to Maate, the suspect has been arrested and rifle number UG POL 565830383-28903 with 29 rounds of live ammunition was recovered.
