Kabale: Clerics warned against involving in politics

As Uganda nears election period, the clergy have been warned against involving themselves in politics but instead to concentrate on spreading the gospel.

Venerable Wellen Byamugisha, the archdeacon of Muyebe Archdeaconry made the comments in the sermon at the consecration of eight deacons and four lay cannons at Rugarama Cathedral, Kigezi diocese of the Church of Uganda.

“Election period is on the door and some of you are going to be lured to become agents of some politicians. Remember your calling, and stick to the gospel,” he urged.

Byamugisha further urged the consecrated to be faithful to Christ and his people the rest of their lives, reminding them that they represent him I the world.

All the 12 were consecrated on Sunday afternoon by the bishop of the diocese of Kigezi, Bishop Engineer George Bagamuhunda.

The diocesan sub dean venerable Manasseh Turyatunga, Rev. Gad Akanjuna of All Saints church Kabale, the diocesan secretary Rev. Erasmus Turyatunga, the principle of Bishop Barham University Kabale Dr. Medrd Rugyendo were all consecrated as Lay Cannons.
