Police in Rukungiri district has in detention two people for allegedly beating, and burning a man to death.

The arrested duo have been identified as William Owakubariho, 40, and Consolata Owomugisha, 38, all residents of Kikunyu cell, Nyakitabire parish, Ruhinda Sub County in Rukungiri District.

ASP Moses Nanoka, the Rukungiri District Police Commander told Watchdog Uganda that preliminary investigations indicate that Owomugisha whose husband died a year ago, had two lovers who collided at her house on Saturday night.

It’s alleged that one of Owomugisha’s lovers identified as James Rweitemenzi, 38 was sleeping in her house when second lover William Owakubariho arrived.

A fight ensued thereafter.

According to Nanoka, Rweitemenzi was overpowered and beaten to coma and later burnt with a mosquito net to death.

John Twinoburyo, an area resident told Watchdog Uganda that since Owomugisha’s husband died, she has been dating many men.

“Were not surprised to witness this bad act because we have on several occasions seen men come in and out of her house,” Twinoburyo said.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and said that investigations are ongoing at Rukungiri Police Station.

According to Maate, Rweitemenzi remained unconscious until Sunday morning when he was taken to Rwengiri Health Centre III where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“We already have detained two people in relation to this murder so that they can help us with investigations,” Maate was quoted saying.

This case has been registered at Rukungiri police station under file number CRB 1472.
