Police in Kamengo is holding a 38 year old man who defiled and infected his seven year old niece with HIV/AIDS.
The incident happened in 2017 at Lukango village, Kamengo sub county, Mpigi district.
According to Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, the victim revealed that her maternal uncle, defiled her on three separate occasions from his garden at Lukango village and threatened to kill her if she ever tells any one.
“The matter was however, brought to the attention of her parents in 2018, who were equally threatened by the suspect, till September 2019, when the intelligence was picked by the police,” said Enanga.
“On the September 26, 2019, the suspect identified as Kaweesi Joseph, a 38year old, resident of Lukango village was arrested. He was examined and found to be HIV positive and on ARV drugs. The public is reminded that Aggravated Defilement is a crime of Capital nature and can carry a sentence of up to life imprisonment, if found guilty.”
Enanga also cautioned parents to always watch out closely for early signs of child sexual abuse and always report the matters to Police.
“We would like to urge all parents, guardians and caregivers that known persons including friends and relatives are the number one perpetrators of criminal sexual abuse against children.”
