‪Not ours: Nakasero Hospital denies patient withdrawing money on oxygen

A privately owned hospital has disowned a patient who was pictured withdrawing money while still connected to an oxygen tank.

In the photo, which made rounds early Tuesday morning and was reportedly taken at an Equity Bank branch, an aging gentleman is seen surrounded by two caretakers in blue and maroon clinical attire. The patient lies ill on a wheel chair by the bank counter. The money he was to withdraw was reportedly for an emergency heart operation

“A customer has to come from his hospital bed (with his Oxygen Tank in tow) to sign for his cash. At Equity Bank,” one of the captions to the photo reads.

But just as social media users were about to get in terms with what was happening, Nakasero Hospital issued a statement to say “…this patient was not from our facility.”

The hospital is a private facility that was started by a group of Consultant Doctors in 2009.

According to the hospital website, ‘the doctors came together with a goal of setting up a world class hospital that would meet the healthcare needs of Ugandans and East Africans who were seeking medical treatment outside the region, due to the gap in quality healthcare services in the country. In all we do, we must remember this background and uphold this goal, guided by the vision, mission and values of the hospital.’

The statement describes the post as ‘malicious.’

“We have noted a malicious post on one of the social media platforms purporting that Nakasero Hospital transported a patient to a bank to access funds prior to medical treatment. We would like to categorically state that this is not true; this patient was not from our facility,” the statement reads in part.

“As a leading healthcare provider in the region, Nakasero Hospital always puts patient care above all else. We expect the person responsible for this post to with draw it immediately.”

No medical facility has come out to claim the patient.
