Kabale district local government on Monday handed over materials/protective gears to farmers engaged in bee keeping worth Shs5 million.

While giving out these materials in Kabale, the district chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa said they chose to support bee keepers by giving them protective gears which include oval, smokers and the brush to boost honey production, promote wealth among families.

Keihwa explained to the farmers that the brush was meant to wipe out the remaining bees or the lava from the wax that contain honey.

He further said that once people are helped to adopt modern ways of bee keeping, the district shall have increased honey production and a better quality of honey because materials that the district distributed cause general cleanliness in the harvest of honey extraction.

At the same event, the sub counties of Kitumba, Rubaya and kaharo among others received a total of 20,000 apple seedlings to different farmers.

According to Keihwa, each seedling costs Shs9,000.

“It’s an intervention of Government to help people boost house hold income in Kabale,” Keihwa was quoted saying.
