Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has issued hotline numbers for people to report whoever violates the laws of smoking.

The numbers; 0800990000 / 0794663333 will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In a bid to implement the 2015 Tobacco Control Act, the authority in August this year, banned smoking in and within 50 metres from any public facility or place such as a school or a hospital.

It is unlawful to sell or operate tobacco-related products or smoke a cigarette.

While launching the campaign dubbed “let’s make Kampala smoke free”, the Acting Director Public Health and Environment, Daniel Okello said that over 30 per cent of deaths in Kampala are due to non-communicable diseases caused by among others, smoking.

Any person who falls victim is fined shs200,000 or serves six months in prison.
