Over 3000 Police Officers are to be trained and equipped with CCTV management skills to help them handle the ongoing national safe city CCTV project.
CP Yusuf Sewanyana, Deputy Director Information Communication Technology, said the monitoring agents in different categories like operators, traffic, field officers, command and control, technical engineers, computer scientists and technicians will be trained to manage the day to day operations of the system and its maintenance.
“We shall train specialists in power management, video analysis, artificial intelligence, machine language,” Sewanyana said.
He noted that some officers are already receiving practical training in installing equipment in data centers, aligning fibers, installing monitor walls and cameras.
On Uganda Independence Day, President Yoweri Museveni commissioned CCTV cameras at the National Command and Control Centre at Nateete Police Station.
“In my recent addresses on security, I indicated that the government would undertake this project to fight urban crime. The cameras are now up and running,” Museveni said adding: “The Banyankole advise that if you hear footsteps behind you, do not just run without seeing the source of the noise. You might be running away from a mere cock. Christians know the story of panicky disciples as they crossed the lake while Jesus slept. They had little faith”.
The launch of the surveillance system followed the installation of 122 live CCTV cameras to monitor Lungujja, Old Kampala, Rubaga, Kawaala, Kabowa, Nateete, Mutundwe and surroundings.
