One of the men suspected to have assassinated ASP Mohammad Kirumira in Bulenga, Wakiso district has been gunned down.

President Museveni has announced on his Facebook page that forces from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence rounded up and killed a man identified as Abdu Kateregga, and a big number of his accomplices arrested, on suspicion they were involved in the killing of the vocal police officer.

Museveni explained that Kateregga was part of the Allied Democratic Front (ADF) rebel group which operates from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Countrymen , Countrywomen and Bazukulu

I am sure I am speaking on behalf of many of you when I congratulate the CMI squads which arrested a number of suspects in the killing of ASP Kirumira on Friday night. Quite a number of them will appear in court soon. In the process, one of them, by the names of Kateregga Abdu, was shot and later died of his injuries. It turns out that Kateregga was one of the ADF terrorists that had benefited from Amnesty in the past. This, therefore, is to put on notice all the killers that the wages of sin is death ( Romans 6:23 ).
Members of the public that may have some more information about this particular gang of Kateregga should inform the police.” Said the post on Monday.

It is not clear in the president’s post if the suspects admitted to the crime, or, what led to their arrest, whoever, Mr Museveni has called upon the public that knows more about Kateregga group to offer more information.

Kirumira was killed on September 8, as he returned to his home in Bulenga from a traditional marriage ceremony. He was known for his outspoken personality, and for undressing his bosses in the police force.

By the time of his death, he was not deployed anywhere, but his last duty station was in Buyende district near Lake Kyoga, as district police commander.
