Police in Rubanda district is holding 5 people suspected to be either from the Democratic Republic of Congo or Rwanda over illegal entry into the country.
The five were intercepted at mulore town Council in Rubanda district on Tuesday while traveling in the ‘Nsovu’ Costa bus registration number UBD 376B that was heading from Kisoro to the capital, Kampala.
The bus was stopped upon intelligence that immigrants had penetrated the country illegally.
Upon interrogation by police, the arrested had no documents to identified them. They were all speaking Runyarwanda.
Tai Ramadhan, the Rubanda district police commander speaking to our reporter said that even the driver of the vehicle had no driving permit.
“I have caught a vehicle with illegal immigrants suspected to be either from the DRC or Rwanda. The driver had no driving permit. I have all the reasons to keep the vehicle here at police until further notice ” Tai Ramadhan was quoted saying.
Ugandans should also be security watchdogs
Tai Ramadhan said that the Ugandans must support security agencies to ensure maximum security in the country.
” You keep blaming the Ugandan security for not being serous with its Duties – yet you are the ones that bring illegal immigrants into country ” Ramadan said.
He was worried as to why the bus company would allow people without identification into their buses.
Because of insecurity threats in the Democratic Republic of Congo and un specified reasons in Rwanda, illegal immigrants from these countries to Uganda have increased in the recent months.
