Another journalist has been badly beaten by military operatives while covering Friday morning Bobi Wine protests in Kamwokya, a suburb of Kampala.
A journalist with NBS television identified as Joshua Mujunga, was beaten as Kamwokya erupted into protests, the morning after homeboy Bobi Wine was denied exit at Entebbe International Airport to seek treatment. Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi was raised in Kamwokya, a place where he cut his teeth as an artiste.
Mujunga joins the list of journalists who have fallen victims of security indiscriminate beating of Ugandans who are caught up in protests. Eye witness account say soldiers surrounded Mujunga, beat him up and kicked his camera as it fell down on the road. They had no sense of remorse for incident, according to the video this website has seen.
The security forces have in recent days criticised for beating James Akena, the Reuters photo journalist, as well as NTV reporters some of which spent a night in cells, while covering Arua by elections, and protests which ensured afterwards.
The Chief of Defence Forces David Muhoozi apologised for the beating journalists and promised to apprehend the undisciplined soldiers who brutalised the press men.
