The Ministry of health has refuted claims in media that there are Ebola cases reported from the districts of Kasese and Kabale in Uganda saying there is no need to worry as the said cases were tested negative and they are on high alert.
The Ebola disease that broke out in the neighboring democratic republic of Congo last month has so far claimed lives of 57 people in the different parts of the country and over 32 are still under surveillance.
Speaking to the media at Munyonyo Speke Resort Hotel during the high level symposium on laboratory diagnostic strategy for eradication of malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDs, the minister of health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said the country has continued to tighten its surveillance systems and the screening systems along the five(5) high ranking districts especially kasese which is the main challenge as it is one of the districts with direct entry into Uganda from the neighboring Congo.
“We have intensified our surveillance system with the help of the border police to handle every suspected case”,said Aceng.
The minister said no case has so far crossed into the country and they have increased there surveillance systems in the 22 districts along the border points say from West Nile up to low down in Kisoro .
We have increased our surveillance systems in the 22 border districts because someone can penetrate the country at any point along the border”,said Aceng.
She added that they have kept on getting alerts on a daily basis and she has already put up isolation tents in Kasese and Ntoroko to handle any cases and now we are considering putting up mobile laboratories in the risky districts.
