The situation is Arua is still tense, a day after Kasiano Wadri, was announced MP elect for the Municipality. Wadri, now in jail, and charges including terrorism and treason opened against him alongside 33 others, won the highly contested election and beat NRM’s Nusura Tiperu and FDC’s Bruce Masema, the top challengers.

Soldiers have been patrolling the town of Arua, and it is reported that on Wednesday night several people were picked and put in police cells for threatening peace in the town.

Wadri was backed by the popular People Power movement comprising Kampala independent minded policians including Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake, Jinja Municipality Mp Paul Mwiru, among others.

Over 100 people have been jailed in different cells  between Arua and Gulu pending trial, after the unfortunate scuffle on the last day of campaigns. Two people were shot dead, including Yasin Kawuma, the driver of Bobi Wine who was gunned down in cold blood outside Pacific Hotel in Arua. No one knows yet who killed Yasin.

The alteration kicked off after it was reported that followers of Wadri and Bobi Wine disrupted President Museveni’s convoy, who was leaving the campaign ground where he was throwing his weight behind Tiperu. Nusura came second in the race.

There are also reports that the opposition followers threw stones at Museveni’s convoy, breaking the glasses of one of the vehicles. Security saw the attempt as crossing the line, and started hunting down suspected culprits including throwing in jail the campaign strategists of Wadri and the candidate himself who have today in Gulu faced court on several charges.
