Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) are having one of their own in custody after shooting three people dead on Saturday night in a bar at Kabedopong, Gulu District.
Lance Corporal Odaga Geoffrey misused his weapon thus unlawfully killing three people.
According to UPDF Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, Odaga’s immediate arrest was executed by UPDF 4 Division Commander Brig. Emanuel Kanyesigye and the force highly regrets the shooting incident.
He said they are working closely with Uganda Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The UPDF 4 Division Commander Brig Emanuel Kanyesigye has caused the immediate arrest of Lance Corporal Odaga Geoffrey the Soldier who last night misused his weapon in an unlawful shooting .This incident which led to the death of three revellers in a bar at Kabedopong in Gulu is very regrettable .Investigations have however commenced by a team of UPDF and Uganda Police Force into the circumstances surrounding this incident .Our condolences and sympathies go to the families of the victims as we condemn the action of the soldier.The gun used has also been recovered and exhibited by the investigators,” said Brig. Karemire.
