Security cameras donated by businessman Sudhir Ruparelia have significantly helped reduce corruption at the Central Police Station, says Joseph Bakaleke, the DPC of CPS.
Bakeleke said while appearing on radio on Friday morning that CPS was like a den of thieves with conmen pretending to be police officers asking for bribes from the unsuspecting public.
He said, “Criminals have all disappeared from CPS. The cameras are so good that you see what the suspect is doing clearly. No one can deny.
“From my office I can now see what is taking place at the entire CPS thanks to these cameras,” the DPC who was appearing on Akaboozi Radio in Kampala said on Thursday morning.
“I thank Mr Sudhir Ruparelia for donating these CCTV cameras,” Bakaleke told Michael Kisenyi, the show host. “I had heard the president talking about CCTV cameras reducing crime, and I approached several people to donate them to us to test on our own stations. It is only Mr Sudhir who responded to us positively and bought several cameras each costing more than Sh600,000.”
When the Ruparelia Group Chairman donated the cameras to police, he said he did so to support police in its bid to curb crime rate around the station.
