Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) has today delivered the first batch of five thousand chicks to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters Old Kampala, to be distributed to mainly Muslim youth and women groups across the country.
The chicks were immediately handed over to representatives of beneficiary groups from Sembabule, Kabale, Wakiso, Luwero, Bugiri and Mukono Muslim Districts. This was during a ceremony organised by Mr. Muhammad Aluma; the UMSC Secretary for Social Services, and presided over by H.E the Deputy Mufti of Uganda Shk. Abdallah Semambo.
His Eminence the Deputy Mufti Shk. Abdallah Semambo thanked President Yoweri Museveni and the government of Uganda for coming up with OWC. He further commended the OWC team led by Gen. Salim Saleh for partnering with UMSC in the campaign against poverty.
To the beneficiary groups, the Deputy Mufti urged them to treat and feed the chicks well so that they can grow up, multiply and create the desired wealth.
“UMSC will dispatch officials to monitor the progress of the beneficiaries and guide them accordingly” the Deputy Mufti told journalists who covered the event.
The UMSC Secretary General Hon. Haji Ramathan Mugalu said, like the government of Uganda, UMSC under its unity and development slogan is implementing several programs aimed at fighting poverty.
He said, these are in addition to promoting government development programs like OWC among Muslims all over the country.
The Secretary for Social Services Mr. Aluma said OWC approved a total of fifteen thousand chicks out of the seventy thousand requested by UMSC, noting that once the rest are delivered, they will be given to beneficiaries identified and trained in the remaining Muslim Districts.
Each beneficiary group received chick mash alongside the chicks. Bugiri Muslim district for example got 1000 chicks with 48 bags of chick mash. After two months, they will all receive growers poultry feeds.
