With the Young Entrepreneurship Summit about to take place, the economic picture for Uganda looks bright.

Uganda is among the top three countries that has its entrepreneurs among the best in the Tony Elumelu Foundation, an African Philanthropic initiative.

Over 70 Ugandans were selected as individuals with the most innovative and high-potential business ideas in the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) Entrepreneurship Programme.

According to the latest report by the Centre for International Development (CID) at Harvard University, India and Uganda are poised to lead global growth in the next decade as new economic projections indicate the ascendency of countries on the Indian Ocean rim and East Africa.

Mr. Edwin Musiime, the Executive Director Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs Uganda and brain behind the summit says this is a huge opportunity for the young people who see business as their pathway to success, to take advantage of.

“I believe that the next decade would witness a revolution in entrepreneurship never before witnessed in our country – if the peace we enjoy with governance prevails, ” adds Musiime.

He also says that the Chamber is an opportunity to the Young people in Uganda who are rated the youngest growing population in the world.

Other reports have indicated that Uganda has the highest business start up rates but collapse within two years on inception.

Mr Musiime says this is partly what the Summit this year will address.

The First Lady Janet Museveni is expected to open the first annual Young Entrepreneurship Summit on the 2nd-3rd April at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The event will also be graced by the USA Ambassador to Uganda Ms Deborah R. Malac.

Mr Musiime told this website that the Summit will host over 1,000 young entrepreneurs and apprentices. Readers of @WatchdogUganda can also win tickets by liking the Facebook page of the “Chamber of young entrepreneurs” Facebook page or just read about more on www.jobs.monitor.co.ug/watch and we will send you an entry code.

The event that will launch entrepreneurship programs for entrepreneurs , schools and universities is running under the theme: Inspiring a Sustainable Entrepreneurship Culture.

“The current success stories of our young people illustrates the strength and depth of entrepreneurial promise and commitment in our country,” says Mr Musiime.
