Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine with his colleagues under the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee on Thursday visited prisons in Mityana and Mubende District to assses the state of prison facilities and police cells as per human rights standards.
Bobi Wine said overcrowding, unfair hearing, delayed and sometimes no justice, neglected cases, poor waste disposal mechanisms, under funding, poor housing facilities, neglected health conditions, among others headline the deteriorating state of government prisons and police cells.
“As a matter of fact, it is not only the inmates but also the prisons staff and police officers affected by these conditions,” Bobi Wine stressed out.
“Their outcry is that their leaders devise means on how to bail them from these inhumane conditions and this outcry is exactly what we pledge to present to parliament for discussion and way forward,”he added.
