The election of Amuriat Patrick as new Forum for Democratic Change president has rocked the party boat with all kind of words flying in all directions regarding the future of the biggest political group in Uganda.
Whereas the group rallying behind Gen Mugisha Muntu the immediate past president are throwing mixed messages on staying or forming another group, however the focus is on Kizza Besigye.
It is alleged that Besigye backed Amuriat for selfish reasons.
Among the things Besigye is accused of is frustrating Gen Muntu by creating splinter groups in party so as he remains the Alfa and omega of FDC. It’s alleged that Besigye wants to continue challenging President Museveni ad infinitum.
On Saturday however during his time on prime time talk show Capital Gang on Capital FM, government spokesman Ofwono Opondo said he has intelligence that Besigye wanted Amuriat for president so that he has it easy either to stand for president in 2021 or his wife Winnie Byanyima.
Ofwono however was not challenged on the allegations by the FDC panelists on show on the allegations including party spokesperson Ssemujju Nganda and legal advisor Abdu Katuntu who are seen as sympathetic to Gen Muntu.
Gen Muntu himself while appearing on CBS 88.8fm with Meddie Nsereko reiterated his stand that he might consider forming his own party if he is not satisfied with the direction the party was taking.
