Newly appointed Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima has revealed that he doesn’t know why the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura appointed him to that position.

While appearing on NBS’s Morning Breeze show on Thursday morning, SSP Kayima said he doesn’t know why the police boss appointed him but like priests, police officers always take it with pride whenever they are transferred since that’s how they are trained.

“I don’t know why IGP appointed me. Like priests do, they always take it with pride whenever they are transferred, that is how we (police) are trained,” he said.

“The elevation to that level of Uganda Police spokesperson is an honor at the same time a burden to carry.” Kayima added.

On Tuesday, Kayima who worked as Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson was promoted to a full Police Spokesperson.

Kayima replaced Assan Kasingye as the force goes through numerous changes in its top management following the detention of some commanders a couple of days ago.

The new police spokesman attended Makerere University where he studied his bachelors of education. He did his A level at St Henry’s Kitovu and O-Level at Bukalasa Minor Seminary in Masaka. Kayima made his mark in police as a defender of land rights in police’s lands department. He has written a book on land matters in Uganda.
