The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Maj Gen. (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire called upon Africans to be more patriotic And Pan-africanists.
The minister who is also the Chairman of the Global PanAfrican Movement was giving a speech at the memorial lecture of the South African freedom fighter Oliver Reginald Tambo at the School of Leadership Kaweweta on Friday 27th Oct 2017 where he represented the president H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Gen otafiire called upon Africans to work for unity of Africa and stop taking themselves as slaves to work for whites yet slave trade had ceased.
“Africans must unite politically, socially and economically and stop going to China to buy things but instead support fellow Africans” he added.
On the same occasion, Gen David Muhoozi the UPDF Chief of Defence Forces said that the Struggle to liberate Africa still continues and it is the responsibility of everybody.
Gen Muhoozi called upon young stars to desist from joining the army as a last resort to seek jobs but also have passion for their country.
The lecture was meant to celebrate the life of a South African freedom fighter Oliver Tambo who was described by the speakers as: courageous, honesty and selfless. It was also a day to recogonise the 14 follen ANC heroes and heroines who died and were burried in Kaeeweta . The minister , the CDF and the South African high commissioner to Uganda Rtd Maj General Mollo laud wreaths on their graves in commemoration
ANC freedom fighters were housed in Kaweweta bushes as early as 1981 after their expulsion from Angola.
Present was advocate Mancotwa Sonwabile the Chief Executive Officer of National Heritage council of South Africa who profiled the Struggle and the participants. Others who attended included the local leaders of Nakaseke disteict, UPDF officers, representatives of the South African National Defence Forces and the general public.
