UPDF starts recruiting for 4000 slots

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has commenced a recruitment drive aiming at getting 4000 soldiers into the force.

This morning saw the recruitment taking place at Kololo, and headquarters of Mukono, Kamuli, Jinja, Iganga, Wakiso and Kayunga Districts. It has attracted thousands of interested youths.

The recruitment will be completed on 29th October 2017 after setting standards that must be met by all candidates to ensure a high quality professional force.

These requirements among others include a need to be a citizen of Uganda, medically fit with a high moral standing confirmed by local leaders and a minimum qualification of ‘A’ level for those seeking to be recruited as regular soldiers.

Those to be professionals must hold ‘A’ Level certificates with bias in Sciences subjects.

A facebook post by Lt Col Deo Akiiki indicates that Brig Jim Wills Byarugaba, the UPDF Chief of Training and Recruitment is the Exercise Coordinator assisted by seven team leaders at a rank of Colonel.
