The legal battle between Bank of Uganda and prominent businessman Sudhir Ruparelia has kicked off today at the High Court of Commercial Division.
BoU accuses Sudhir and his Meera Investment Limited for siphoning shs400 billion from Crane Bank and illegally transferring Crane Bank’s land titles.
This comes at the moment when Sudhir through his lawyers Kampala Associated Advocates requested Court to remove BoU lawyers MMAKS and AF Mpanga Advocates from the case citing conflict of interest.
Few days ago, Sudhir unveiled evidence pinning both law firms to have presented him and his businesses on several occasions.
Documents show Timothy Masembe Kanyerezi of MMAKS represented Rosebud, Meera Investment, Speke Hotel and Crane Bank.
However, Masembe said he was not working for Sudhir but Crane Bank.
Talking to Daily Monitor, Masembe sought to distinguish between Sudhir and his companies that he was working for.
“I have worked for Crane Bank and I still work for it but Sudhir is Sudhir, not those business entities.”
