President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Armed Forces, has praised the quality of soldiers that are being passed out currently.

“I am happy to see that the standard of recruits that we have sowed and are harvesting, is very high as if they are already officers yet they are just recruits,” he said.

General Museveni was passing out recruits yesterday at the Oliver Reginald Tambo School of Leadership, Kaweweeta in Nakaseke district. State Ministers for Defence, Col. Charles Engola and that of Veterans’ Affairs, Major Rwamirama Bright as well as the as the Commander of the Land Forces, Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu, attended the ceremony.

Addressing close to 3,000 recruits, who have completed their 9-month training, the President said that the UPDF policy that requires recruits to have higher education as one of the qualifications, is paying off. He assured the graduates that their future in the Army would be bright if only they remain disciplined and ideologically advanced.

General Museveni also cautioned them against living reckless lives and shun alcohol consumption, among others, in order to avoid contracting the HIV/AIDS scourge that would end their precious lives prematurely.

The Chief of the Defence Forces, General David Muhoozi, called for improved infantry service training and revitalization of training schools that specialize in leadership courses.
