In a span of one week, Monitor Publications has apologized twice for failing to live up to its promise of telling the “truth everyday”.
First they apologized to President Museveni who the newspaper accused of calling opposition politicians “prostitutes”.
Then, an editorial which pointed out other serious misrepresentation of facts.
The biggest private newspaper should of course be commended for being bold to acknowledge its errors. That is hallmark of honesty and integrity when one falls short.
Watchdog Uganda however is hearing that the bosses have summoned top editors who have been working on the stories.
Monitor bosses from Nairobi’s nation media group have been in town and are very concerned about the laxity in gate keeping at the newspaper.
Our desk understands that Managing editors Chekwech Allan and Richard Oundo as well as Otim Lucima, a revise editor and news editor Yasiin Mugerwa have been summoned for disciplinary to explain themselves over the increasing number of errors in the newspaper.
We shall update you what transpires inside the disciplinary sitting.
