The State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations Herbert Kabafunzaki who was arrested on Saturday for soliciting a bribe from Hamid Muhammad, the proprietor of AYA Group has today appeared before Anti-Corruption Court to answer charges of corruption.
While in appearing before the Judge, Kabafunzaki’s Political assistant, Brian Mugabo pleaded guilty of accepting a bribe on behalf of the minister.
However, Kabafunzaki has pleaded not guilty and through his lawyers he has applied for bail.
The Court will rule on Kabafunzaki’s bail application tomorrow. He has been sent to Luzira Prison.
Counsel Kenneth Muhangi (Kabafunzaki’s lawyer) presented three sureties as requested by court for Kabafunzaki’s bail application.
Meanwhile,State prosecutor asked court for stringent bail terms including hefty amounts of money, passport & a land title. State prosecutor also wants Minister Kabafunzaki to report to court weekly if granted bail.
