Uganda Cooperatives Alliance (UCA) has urged parliament to improve laws concerning group cooperatives that can contribute to the growth of cooperatives today.
Ivan Asimwe, the chairman of UCA said that the objectives of these group cooperatives are; improving on people’s income , providing capital funds to the people and improving the lives of the youth.
“We improve people’s lives but the laws that are guiding the cooperatives have been changed which makes people doubt the work of our cooperatives,” Asimwe said.
The Uganda Cooperatives Alliance consists of more than 30 cooperative groups.
Asimwe adds that articles the parliament changed are not favoring the cooperatives but just leading to their downfall constantly.
“As I see the laws made, it seems the government doesn’t want cooperatives to prosper or gain from their objectives.” Asimwe stated.
