Wakiso district has started registering pesticides’ dealers on Friday to reduce and eradicate counterfeits in the agricultural sector.
Dr. Patrick Aine, the Agriculture, Animal industry and fisheries representative in Wakiso said that many farmers have been complaining about the pesticides that they are fake.
“Dealers who are selling pesticides are being registered so that it helps us to know who are engaging in this business and who are selling fake pesticides,” Dr. Aine said.
He added that the more farmers use fake pesticides the more the land is destroyed as well as the air is polluted.
“We are going to arrest anyone found selling fake pesticides because it is a crime,” Dr. Aine added.
Dr. Aine also said that they are going to educate the farmers on how to use and handle the pesticides at home and in the garden
