Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is unfolding a new chapter in Local Content. After encouraging cement and steel manufacturers to tap into the opportunities that come with a $2.3bn project, government has met with CEOs of Insurance companies to discuss the same.

Government’s local content policy is that 40% of services and materials required for SGR, should be provided by local companies.

This was signed in the agreement with the Contractor, China Harbor Engineering Company. It was also agreed that for every 10 SGR workers, 9 must be Ugandans.

Government has vowed to enforce the agreement  to ensure that Ugandans gain.
