Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, and Miss Uganda Quiin Abenakyo have taken Miss World Vanessa Ponce De Leone to tour Busoga in a bid to boost the areas’ local tourism.

Ponce together with the Miss World team are in the country to witness the crowing of Miss Uganda 2019, in an event that’s happening on July 25 at Kampala Sheraton Hotel.

The Mexican Beauty Queen was taken to tour the famous Kigulu Hill in Buyende, and thereafter launched a free cancer screening event organised by the Indian Women Association.

Also at the event on Wednesday, Abenekyo detailed her ‘Beauty with Purpose’ project aimed at keeping the girl child in school.

She said that the lack of sanitary pads has driven many girls out of school, and as a solution to the problem, Abenakyo called for teaching girls on how to make reusable sanitary pads.

“This is very sad. A girl should not drop out of school because of sanitary pads, we need to ensure the pads are distributed to them, but the lasting solution is in teaching them how to make them ‘reusable sanitary pads’,” she said.

Kadaga thanked Ponce for coming to Uganda and asked her to tell a beautiful story about the Pearl of Africa, and also urged the locals to do all it takes to keep the girl child in school, saying that the difficult times are even more cruel to uneducated women.
