This year in February, Hollywood actor and producer, Forest Whitaker, famous for his role in the movie the Last King of Scotland came to Uganda to champion peace and development initiatives through young people especially in the Northern region.
Just two months down the road, Whitaker is back in Uganda to l aunch a youth program & work with a new group of youth peacemakers in Acholi sub-region under his organization known as The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative (WPDI).
“Excited to be in Uganda this week for the launch of our youth program & work with a new group of youth peace makers in Acholi sub-region,” WPDI tweeted.
Apparently, he is in Gulu visiting refugee camps in northern Uganda.From there, he will head to Kiryandongo.
The programme that is currently operating 30 community helps train young people in conflict resolution, leadership, peace and community building as well as mediation skills to promote inner healing.
Before coming to Uganda, Whitaker first launched an eighth Community Learning Center in South Sudan during weekend.
The actor is also the UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation and a member of the United Nations(UN) Sustainable Development Goals Advocacy Group.
