Uganda’s Evelyn Namatovu Kironde has made the Pearl of Africa proud after emerging Miss International Africa and second runner up in the Miss International Beauty Pageant, 2019.

Namatovu came third behind Mexico’s Andrea Tascano and Thailand’s Sireethorn Leearamwat, who was crowned Miss International Beauty 2019-2020 in an event that took place on November 12, 2019 at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Bunkyo district, Tokyo , Japan.

This was Uganda’s maiden participation in this beauty pageant, but it didn’t stop the 23-year-old from bringing the crown back home in the pageant’s 59th edition.

Namatovu battled with other 89 contestants from across the globe, who were also eyeing to take on the crown from Mariem Claret Velazco, a Venezuelan model.

Not new to pageant races, the Mityana-born beauty queen participated in Miss Uganda 2016 where she made it to the top five finalists, and later, she was crowned as Miss Beach 2016.

Namatovu is a Makerere University Business School (MUBs) student, who is soon graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Management.

According to Monica Aketch, the National Director of Miss International Uganda Franchise, Namatovu was the right choice to represent Uganda because of her passion about pageant and business, her personality, intelligence and beauty.

“We made a call for submission and received a big number of contestants. Since we had little time to make a decision, we had to choose someone who is familiar with pageantry, Beautiful, intelligent and Namatovu was the perfect person for this,” Aketch said during an interview recently as they were unveiling Namatovu.

Miss International is a Japanese-based International beauty pageant, organised by the International Cultural Association. It is part of the ‘Four biggest international pageants’. Others are Miss World, Miss Universe and Miss Earth.

The pageant has been in existence since 1960 and stands for Business tourism, International Business, Cultural exchange, Fashion, Creative Arts and Showbiz among others.

Namatovu is the second Ugandan to win an African crown after Quiin Abenakyo, who represented Uganda at Miss World 2018 in China and was crowned Miss World Africa 2018.
