Nigerian singer Augustine Kelechi alias Tekno Miles has been declared a national security threat, following the release of his latest controversial video dubbed ‘Agege’.
In the song, Tekno features fellow Nigerian singer Zlatan. This viral video also features half-naked strippers dancing erotically in a transparent outdoor display truck, as Tekno throws money at them.
Popularly known in Uganda for songs like Pana, Diana, Woman Choko, Yawa, Tekno was first arrested by Police last week and later released on bond, before Nigeria’s National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) declaring him a national security threat.
According to 1st News, Nigeria, The NCAC Director-General Olusegun Runsewe claimed that nobody is bigger than Nigeria, and that they are going to use Tekno as a scapegoat to send a strong signal that government doesn’t tolerate nonsense and immorality.
“Since the offensive Tekno scam video came to limelight, I have received hundreds of telephone calls and SMS from Nigerians at home and others in United Kingdom U.S, Canada and other parts of the world.
“Now that he has released the shameful video, when investigation is still ongoing, we are going to inform security agencies to place him on their watch list. Because, his action is a threat to national security and bad influence on Nigerian youths,” he stated.
Tekno isn’t the first African star to face issues with the law over nudity- In 2018, Tanzania’s bongo flavor artistes Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny faced a music ban following their controversial song Mwanza.
According to Tanzania’s arts regulator body Basata, that song ‘Mwanza’ contains the Swahili word for “horny”, and dancer were seen in a video simulating sex.
Basata first warned these artistes to seize performance of this song, but during their Wasafi festival in Mwanza city, they defiantly performed the song, thus forcing the Basata to ban them from performing within the country and abroad.
However, they later came out and publicly apologized, and the ban was lifted.
