The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura on Thursday opened the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) Organs Meeting at Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe.
About 100 officers from 14 member states are attending organs meeting to discuss security matters under the theme “20 years of Resilience in Combating Transnational Organized Crime through enhanced cooperation and innovation”.
Gen. Kayihura said that the meeting will address important security matter that affects the region.
“This is a very important meeting for planning and strategizing, We are meeting at a very positive time in spite of incidents of armed conflicts in different parts of the continent like DRC, South Sudan ,Somalia among others ,we started off as three countries now we are 14 that’s an achievement in itself if we are to talk about performance indicators,”said Gen. Kayihura
“We have also advanced with continental mechanism of coordinating our efforts like the creation of Afripol a body that links all African Police Chiefs, lets build on our positive achievement and consolidate these efforts to tie up all lose ends , turn words into action to achieve our resolutions”.
AIGP Grace Akullo, Director Criminal Investigations Directorate in her address said that there has been a lot of resilience as far as EAPCCO and fighting crime in the region is concerned.
“We have been handling a number of transnational organized crimes like terrorism , trafficking of drugs and humans , moto vehicle thefts ,financial crimes , smuggling and counterfeit products, so we need a lot of cooperation amongst ourselves as countries and law enforcement bodies to fight these crimes which are transnational in nature.” Akullo explained.
