The upcoming LéO Africa Economic Forum will take place on Friday 7th July at the Kampala Serena Hotel and will be aired live on NBS TV. It is expected to be attended by social entrepreneurs, young and emerging leaders, and key decision makers in the private and public sectors in East Africa. The forum theme is: “The Impact of Disruptive Innovations on Growth and Development in Africa”.

The Minister for Information and ICT, Uganda Frank Tumwebaze will speak at the Forum alongside Dr. Ambrose Agona, Director General, National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) Uganda, Stanbic CEO, Mr. Patrick Mweheire, Lucrezia Koestler Bitete,  Managing Director – Laboremus Consulting and NBS TV CEO, Kin Kariisa among a host of experts and analysts from a wide range of sectors such as Banking, Oil and Gas, International Trade, Economic Policy and others.

There will be a special Master Class Session in collaboration with the Africa Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Rwanda on the role of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in nurturing the next generation of innovators. The session will be delivered by Arnold Kwizera, the Media Relations Manager at African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Rwanda.

Speaking about the upcoming forum, Uganda’s Minister for Information and ICT, Frank Tumwebaze said, “The power of innovation is so enormous. People’s lives got revolutionized when everybody, young and old, elite and uneducated where able to use a mobile phone. You can now tell what the weather will look like using your phone, or even monitor your multiple activities in different locations through an app.”

Awel Uwihanganye, Founder and Senior Director, LéO Africa Institute added: “This forum as a platform for innovators, entrepreneurs and thought leaders is vital to ensure that conversations about development in Africa are had by Africans. As LéO Africa Institute, we believe that ideas matter in moving our societies forward. We also strongly believe networks of thinkers and doers are valuable in advancing global collaborations and partnerships for development.”

Mr. Kin Kariisa, NBS TV CEO and official broadcaster of the day-long forum said, “Innovation is the new buzz word in business and with it comes a disruption that if we are not prepared for will leave many behind. For us in the broadcasting world, it has manifested itself through digital and social media which has seen many of us adapt to the changing times and technology. We have had to innovate and learn to do more with less. With our new smart technology at NBS, we will be broadcasting the forum live on air and online through our channels and I encourage those unable to attend the Forum to join the conversation by watching and following #nbsupdates.”
