Why Do many Muslims embrace Kizza Besigye?

Omar Kalinge-Nnyago

April 22, 2017

(You need two minutes to read this. Sorry if you are a bit busy)

This post is in response to Rajab Kaaya’s Birthday message to KB, in which he confessed that in Mityana with a group of Sheikhs, he had prayed for Besigye to accept Islam.

1. For a Muslim, the best wish you can make for anybody is not long life, good health, good children… etc. Those come later. The best Muslim wish is for you to accept Islam. So please, if you are not a Muslim take no offense when a Muslim wishes you to accept Islam. This is the best Muslim wish ever. This is our deep held belief. There is nothing as good as Islam. Nothing.

2. Why do these people and many others we cannot mention here- show love and appreciate Kizza Besigye?: Obeid Kamulegeya, Hussein Kyanjo, Hassan Fungaroo, Semujju Nganda, Erias Lukwago, Mubarak Munyagwa, Ramadhan Amin, Sulaiman Kiggundu (the late), Asuman Basalirwa, Rajab Kaaya…and and and…?? I won’t mention the Muslim women for fear of a possible misunderstanding. This is facebook you know.

Three. This is the reason. Kizza Besigye has all the qualities of a good Muslim without being Muslim. He performs better in many of these aspects than us, who claim to be Muslims do. Some of them are:

He is not arrogant – even when he should have all reason to be. Humility is a high virtue in Islam.

He is generous. Islam teaches giving- but that s not all. When you give, you don’t tell! Besigye helps so many people financially but he would never ever mention it to anyone else. Its the people who give testimonies later.

Besigye forgives. Islam puts forgiveness over punishment. We all know ow many people have abused him in public, did all sorts of things against him- but they walked back right into his arms – and he never reminded them of what they had done to him before.

Besigye is brave, fearless. A Muslim fears no one, NONE- except Allah the creator. Muslims despise cowards.

Besigye fulfils his promises. When you make an appointment with Besigye, it will happen- all factors remaining constant. If he will be late, he will call to alert you and apologise. If in event he arrives late he would sincerely give his apology. In Islam we are taught never to go back on our promises.

Besigye is respectful. In Islam, respect of persons whether above or below you is an act of faith. Even with his so many altercations with Museveni, he has never called him a pair of Bs. He refers to him as Mr. Museveni.

This is my own testimony. In the name of Allah,I have worked with Kizza Besigye for 11 years now in different roles. He has never lied to me once. Never.

So for you, especially politicians (leaders) who are surprised and even shocked- why Besigye with all the negative publicity around him remains fully in the hearts of the people, not only the Muslims, get some lessons here.

This is what make him tick. And you don’t have to like him to learn from him.

Happy Birthday Colonel.
