Kampala — The National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) Party has officially announced that it will not be presenting a presidential flag bearer in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy aligned with other opposition parties such as the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) and the Democratic Front (DF), which have equally resolved not to participate in the presidential contest.
In a strong statement delivered by the Party’s National Spokesperson, NEED clarified that former Party President, Mr. Joseph Kiiza Kabuleta, is no longer a member of the Party and therefore cannot represent it in any form. His expulsion was effected prior to the declaration, and official communication has been sent to both the Electoral Commission and Mr. Kabuleta himself.
“Mr. Kabuleta is no longer the President, and neither a member of the Party. We have written to the Electoral Commission and to Mr. Kabuleta personally. We do not expect any mistake regarding the representation of NEED in matters concerning the presidential race,” the Spokesperson emphasized.
The Party leadership underscored that this decision reflects a deliberate repositioning of NEED’s role in Uganda’s political landscape. Rather than focusing on a presidential bid, NEED is prioritizing its agenda of economic empowerment, equitable resource distribution, and accountable governance through active grassroots mobilization, parliamentary representation, and local government structures.
NEED reaffirmed its commitment to its founding mission of bringing real change to Ugandans by advocating policies that place resources directly into the hands of the people. The Party urged its supporters to remain firm, united, and committed to the struggle for a fairer Uganda.
The statement concluded by stressing that NEED’s focus in this election cycle will be to amplify the voices of ordinary Ugandans, ensure accountability in governance, and continue building a foundation for sustainable political and economic reforms.
