The centuries-held idiom or proverb which says “…a good turn deserves another…”,rang loudly among the Lango Community living and working in Mbale City after the chairperson Electricity Regulatory Authority(ERA)Dr Sarah Wasagali Kanaabi’s warm congratulatory message upon the successful election of a new Paramount Chief Eng Dr Michael Moses Odongo Okune.

This was during a meeting with the Lango Community Association whose members are working or living in Mbale City, which is considered one of the smartest in the country.

“…I congratulate the Lango community in Bugisu region upon getting a new paramount chief, congratulations your royal highness…”reads part of the message.

In the one-page message which was delivered by the Assistant Deputy RCC in charge of Industrial Division Henry Manana, the ERA chief also urged the people of Lango sub region to make use of the Gulu-based ERA regional offices.

She also donated an unspecified amount of cash meant to cover the paramount Chief’s meals which was handed over in a sealed envelope by the Assistant RCC Henry Manana.

As can be recalled, the Electricity Regulatory Authority in June this year opened its first regional office in the greater north in a bid to bring services nearer the people of Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja areas.

“…I take this opportunity to invite you and your subjects to make use of the office for any residual consumer complaints in regard to the electricity supply services in the region…” Dr Sarah Wasagali Kanaabi appealed.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is a statutory government agency established in 2000 to regulate, license and supervise the generation, transmission, distribution, sale, export and importation of electrical energy to Uganda.

The meeting was organized by the community members led by Dr Patrick Charles Okori who pledged total loyalty and support to the new paramount chief who was in the city to attend the launch of the popular Bamasaba Imbalu Festival held at Mutoto Cultural heritage grounds.

They promised to reciprocate should Dr Sarah Wasagali Kanaabi put to practice unconfirmed reports that she will present herself as candidate for the Mbale City Woman MP in 2026.

In his welcome remarks, Dr Patrick Charles Okori, expressed joy to learn that finally Lango is now on the right track with an exposed and development-oriented cultural leader.

“…we are hopeful that you will collaborate with the various stakeholders like politicians, civil servants, the central government, religious leaders and civil society organizations to stimulate growth and development in Lango…”,the soft speaking Dr Patrick Charles Okori prayed.

Eng. Dr Michael Odongo Okune was elected on 1st March, 2024 and will be enthroned on 2nd November, 2024 at Lira Mayor’s Gardens where President Yoweri Museveni will be the chief guest.

The Lango Cultural Institution (Tekwaro Lango) Speaker (Won-Tok) Willy Omodo Omodo who led an advance team said he created new friends especially the kings from West African countries who were in Mbale.

“…other guests expected also include Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga (because of his Luo connection) from neighboring Kenya and dozens of cultural leaders from West African countries like Nigeria and Ghana have accepted our invitation…”Willy Omodo Omodo revealed.

The occasion will also attract local traditional and cultural leaders like Rwot David Onen Acana II (Acholi), Rwoth Ubimu Philip Rauli Olarker III (Alur), Papaa Angasuban Adei Peter (Karamoja), Won Ateker Raphael Otaya (Papa Me Kumam), and Papa Emorimor Augustine Osuban (Teso).

Others on list to witness the ceremony are Kwar Adhola Stephen Moses Owor(Adhola), Robert Obara Nahama III(Bugwe),Joshua Wilber Musimani(Obwa Ikumbaania Bwa Bagwere), William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope Gabula IV(Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga),Ronald Edward Frederick Kimera Muwenda Mutebi II (Buganda),Umukuka Jude Mike Mudoma(Bugisu) and others will also be part of the landmark ceremony.
