In a fiery verbal attack that has captured national attention, President Yoweri Museveni has lashed out at Kalungu West Member of Parliament Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu, accusing him of being “useless” and “talking like children.”

This confrontation occurred on Friday at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) headquarters on Kyadondo Road, where the President was speaking to mourners of the late Simon Aleper, a member of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).

The former Moroto Municipality legislator Simon Peter Aleper was tragically killed in a fatal motor accident along the Iganga-Tirinyi highway three days ago, and from this background, the president alluded that because the road where Aleper died from is new and smooth where alot of motorists are recklessly driving and over speeding.

He refuted the fellacy of some individuals alleging that roads are too narrow. “Now you see progress and problems that’s why Ugandans need to manage the two. I saw one joker, you know you have got jokers in your society there. There is a joker,  I think is called Ssewungu last night in Parliament when you were talking about Aleper…… you know those who are not so useful I always follow them up.”

He added: “Now he was saying that because there are two lanes, that’s why we have accidents! That we should go to four lanes, just like children. You see adults talking like children, we are struggling to tarmac many roads in the country, now this is talking of four lanes! When we have not even finished two. What sort of people are these? And they call them leaders!!”

He however urged the family and all the mourners to know that sometimes, it’s God’s plan. “But sometimes it’s God who allows these things to happen……so I want the family of the late to trust in God. I have always trusted God although I’m not seen commonly in church.”

Meanwhile, the late Aleper served in the 9th parliament and was the vice chairperson for NRM in Karamoja region.

According to Busoga East police, the accident occurred around 1 am Tuesday at Bukoona and involved a V8 motor vehicle, registration number UAP 787Q, which Aleper was driving.

The V8, travelling from Mbale, collided with an unknown motor vehicle heading from Iganga. Aleper was killed instantly according to a statement from the Busoga East Region police.
