Veteran politician Gen Mugisha Muntu has cautioned his colleague Norbert Mao to be very careful as he executes his cooperation agreement with President Yoweri Museveni.
Gen Muntu, the National Coordinator for the Alliance for the National Transformation (ANT) made this caution on Saturday via his Twitter handle where he noted that although the embattled president general of the Democratic Party (DP) qualifies for the new Justice Ministerial job he was given, he took a high-stake gamble which he may lose with damages.
“It is a high-stakes gamble. The road they are going to walk is quite slippery & rife with treacherous obstacles as well. I hope they have boots with an extraordinary tight grip,” reads his tweet.
On Wednesday, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party signed a cooperation agreement with the Democratic Party (DP) at State House, Entebbe.
President Yoweri Museveni, also the National Chairman of NRM, signed on behalf of the party, while DP President General, Hon. Norbert Mao signed on behalf of DP while both secretary Generals of NRM, Hon. Richard Todwong and DP’s Dr Gerald Siranda witnessed the signing.
Speaking after the signing, Mao appreciated the milestone on behalf of his party, saying that this is a continuous journey which started before some of them were born. He told President Museveni that he now has the historical opportunity to gather party members scattered all over Uganda.
The following day on Thursday, he was appointed Minister of Constitutional Affairs and his appointment was approved on Friday by the Parliament.
Mao’s move to work with the government of the National Resistance Movement shocked many politicians especially those in the opposition since he has always been too critical and also attacked politicians who decided to work with the same government he now works for.
Other politicians like the four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye whom Mao has always castigated to be a mole working with President Museveni’s government said Mao needed to be congratulated because he finally ‘arrived after a long journey’.
“I think that Hon Mao needs to be “congratulated” for ARRIVING after “a long journey” and for the “unprecedented step” taken- using his own words!”
