The Director Crime Intelligence, AIGP Christopher Damulira together with the commander Kampala Metropolitan SCP Stephen Tanui on Thursday held a meeting with the leaders of the taxi industry under their umbrella body the Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF) at Police headquarters in Naguru.
The meeting was called to listen to the various security and other challenges affecting the taxi industry in order to find solutions.
The Chairman, UTOF Rashid Ssekindi outlined a number of challenges such as illegal stages, criminals hiding in the taxi industry and operators of illegal routes among others, and appealed to the police leadership to work together to address the challenges raised.
In response, the Director Crime Intelligence thanked the UTOF leadership for uniting the various taxi groups and Assocation which makes it easy for security forces and government in general to work towards improving service delivery. He, in addition, appealed to the leadership of UTOF to work closely with security forces to ensure that all kinds of crime happening in the taxi industry are eliminated.
The Commander KMP, SCP Tanui acknowledged that UTOF had been able to address conflicts on stages which has contributed to a peaceful environment in the city.
The meeting was attended by Regional Police Commanders from KMP as well as selected Divisional police commanders, Crime intelligence, CID, Community Liaison officers and the entire executive of UTOF.
