Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana has been arrested security operatives at the entrance of Kigo Prison before being whisked away to a yet identified destination.
Ssewanyana together with Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya were on Monday granted bail after spending almost two weeks on remand. The lawmakers are accused of having a hand in the recent spate of killings in the Greater Masaka Sub-region.
Ssewanyana’s arrest has been put to light by Kampala City Lord Mayor also lawyer of the accused, Erias Lukwago.
“Horrible!!!..Hon. Allan ssewanyana has been kidnapped at gun point at the entrance of Kigo Prison by gun-toting operatives shortly after his release by Prisons authorities. He has been whisked away in a drone to an unknown destination, rendering the court order nugatory,”Lukwago posted on Facebook on Thursday.
For the fourth day running, the legislators have remained in prison despite being set free by Masaka High Court.
“We managed to bring the original file but the responsible judicial officer who is supposed to sign on the bail release papers disappeared at 2pm,” Lukwago, one of the defence lawyers, said yesterday.
The hiccups in having the lawmakers released started on Monday when they failed to pay the joint Shs40m bail fee on time.
On Tuesday the MPs were still being held on grounds that their original file was still at Masaka High Court.
They face charges of terrorism, aiding and abetting terrorism, murder and attempted murder, all in connection with the Masaka killings.
